How Material Affects Corrosion Resistance of Stainless Steel Diaphragm Body Flange

304 Stainless Steel Contains ~18% Cr and 8% Ni to form a passive oxide film on surface. Resists atmosphere, clean water, weak acid & alkali. Not suitable for high chloride or concentrated acid media, prone to pitting corrosion in seawater and hydrochloric acid. Ideal for general water treatment and normal-temperature food applications.

316 / 316L Stainless Steel Molybdenum is added to improve resistance against chloride-induced pitting. 316L has low carbon content and avoids intergranular corrosion after welding, with better corrosion resistance than standard 316. Suitable for chloride-containing wastewater, seawater, pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries.

Hastelloy Nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy. Resists strong reducing acids, oxidants and mixed corrosive media, works in harsh environments like concentrated hydrochloric acid and wet chlorine, but with high cost.

Monel Nickel-copper alloy. Good resistance to hydrofluoric acid and alkaline liquids, but poor performance against strong oxidizing acids.

Titanium Alloy Forms highly stable passive film in wet chlorine, seawater and oxidizing media with excellent pitting resistance, except for pure hydrofluoric acid.
